♦ Janna Franzwa Canard, director

Janna Franzwa Canard is thrilled to be in her third year as director at SSPDS! She fell in love with the Day School seven years ago when her youngest daughter, now a fourth grader, started the program. Janna also taught in the Terrific Twos class for two years before taking on this new position. Janna holds a B.S. in education from TCU, is Montessori certified, taught at a local Montessori preschool for eight years, and currently freelances at 360 West magazine when she has time. She’s married and also has a daughter who’s a junior at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. Janna enjoys the great outdoors and spending time with her precious family and friends when her nose isn’t stuck in a book.

♦ Kristin Day, floater/assistant

Kristin Day is excited to be in her seventh year at SSPDS. Kristin studied early childhood education with a specialization in ESL at the University of Houston. She is happily married to her college sweetheart and they are the proud parents of two daughters and one son. She has always had a passion for children and absolutely loves her job! When not at school, she’s spending time with her family, shopping, crafting, cooking up something yummy in the kitchen, and cheering on her kids at their various activities.

♦ Deena Baxley, pre-K

Deena Baxley has been at SSPDS for thirteen years. Deena has been married to her high school sweetheart, Jack, for 38 years. They are the parents of one daughter and son-in-law, and she is a proud new grandma! In her spare time, she loves to read a good book as well as cooking, baking, shopping, crafting and gardening.

♦ Jan Torrieri, pre-K

Jan Torrieri has been at SSPDS for fourteen years. Jan received her B.S. in early childhood education from Texas Tech University and has previously taught pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade in public schools. Jan has a daughter and son-in-law and is a very proud grandmother of three. She is a big fan of Texas Tech football, the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. Jan loves gardening, decorating, fashion, music and dancing.

♦ Larissa Simpson, threes

Larissa Simpson has been at SSPDS for thirteen years. Larissa studied early childhood education at TCC and UTA. Larissa and her husband are the proud parents of two daughters and one smiley little boy. In her spare time, Larissa enjoys reading, cooking, scrapbooking, running, and spending time with family and friends.

♦ Susan Horton, threes

Susan Horton is in her first year at SSPDS. She has a fourth grade daughter and a first grade son. Susan studied elementary education at LSU and also counseling in education at TCU. She has taught fifth grade as well as served as a school counselor. She currently serves in the children’s ministry in her church with her husband and is involved in Kids Hope. She enjoys spending time with her family, friends and her three dogs.

Liz Lyngle is in her third year teaching at SSPDS. She studied early childhood education at Arkansas State University. Liz and her husband are the blessed parents of one daughter. Working with children has always been her passion and a huge part of her life. Liz is also heavily involved in her church and enjoys being the child care coordinator in the children’s ministry.

Rachael Powers is in her fifth year at SSPDS. She is a graduate of TCU with a B.A. in art history. She is happily married and loves spending time with her husband and dog. She and her husband are very active members of their church. When she isn’t working or serving in the children’s ministry at church, Rachael enjoys spending time with family, crafting, working in the yard, going to museums, baking, reading and shopping.

♦ Lee Ann Kelsey, ones

Lee Ann Kelsey has been at SSPDS for fifteen years. Lee Ann has her B.S. in business from Texas Tech. She is married and has a son, daughter and a daughter-in-law. In her spare time, Lee Ann enjoys antique shopping, painting and collecting hand-painted teacups and saucers.

♦ Sonia Behrens, ones

Sonia Behrens has been at SSPDS for sixteen years. She is married to her high school sweetheart and is the proud mom of two boys. In her spare time, she enjoys running and spending time with her family, friends and two amazing grandsons!  

♦ Tina Guimarin, infants

Tina Guimarin is in her seventh year at SSPDS. She is a graduate of North Texas State University with a B.A. in finance. She is married with two children, a high schooler and an Aggie graduate. She has worked in the children’s ministry at her church for the past sixteen years and loves being with the little ones. When not at school you will find Tina at the baseball fields cheering on her son. In her spare time she loves baking, shopping, the Texas Rangers, and spending time with family and friends.

♦ Melody Roberts, infants

Melody is excited to be starting in the infant room full time this year. She started at SSPDS last year as a substitute teacher and loved it. Melody has a BSN from West Texas State University now known as West Texas A&M University. She was a practicing nurse for 18 years, then became a full-time mom after her daughter was born. Melody has been married for 28 years and her daughter attends USC in California. Fight On! She enjoys hiking, traveling and hanging out with her husband and dogs.
